Massive 7.2-Magnitude Earthquake Expected to Hit Ten Miles North of Stanley, ID

*BREAKING NEWS* - Wednesday, seismologists in the Boise Earthquake Detection Center (BEDC) discovered the possibility of a massive 7.2-magnitude earthquake hitting just ten miles north of Stanley, ID. This detection took place roughly 8 hours after seismology machines were deployed in multiple locations around Challis, Stanley, separate locations dispersed throughout the Salmon-Challis National Forest, the Boise-National Forest, and Yellowstone National Park after a major earthquake hit Tuesday. Tuesday's earthquake with an epicenter 80.1 miles from Boise and just 28.3 miles north of Stanley measured in on the richter scale at 6.5. Many Idahoans claimed to have felt it, along with some residents living in west Montana, Oregon, and Washington.
What seismologists of the BEDC are expecting with this possible earthquake is that if it takes place, it most likely will hit at a time range of April 4 - April 9 but could be later than so and has a 79.34 chance of occurring. This estimate came after multiple vibrations that were detected by the new deployed seismology machines in Boise-National Forest but more intense vibrations under the surface of Yellowstone National Park appeared on the richter scale. The cause of the earthquake is a mystery to some, but most seismologists of the BEDC have agreed that this earthquake would act as an aftershock to Tuesday's 6.5 earthquake. The BEDC issued a warning Wednesday that this aftershock alone could result in up to 50 more aftershocks just shortly after if the quaker was to take place. These aftershocks could run a chain of 300 - 400 miles to the North and East where the structure of the ground is most vulnerable. One of the major concerns with this possibility is that Yellowstone's Caldera super-volcano could experience the quaker or even the aftershocks. Some of the most well-known seismologists in the country suggest earthquakes so large and so close could erupt its super-volcano, which is a concern scientists have had for the last 40 years.
Due to the severity of the situation and the threat it presents, Governor Brad Little (R-ID) has issued a warning to hospitals in the Boise and Ada Counties Wednesday. This warning came in part due to the problem the state as well as the country has been dealing with, Covid-19. Wednesday, Idaho saw another 125 people in the Gem State contract the disease, which is spreading like a wild fire. The total reported cases for the state is now at 673. Hospitals have been overwhelmed and reporters Quinn Sims (CNN) and Hayden Clark (MNSBC) have interviewed 40+ responders working overtime to do their best to contain the virus. Hospitals in the two counties are experiencing a lack of space, hospital beds, and ventilators. Medical staff have had to make the hardest of decisions such as deciding which patients to deploy the ventilators to. Still, the problem has only gotten worse and experiencing a major disaster such as an 7.2 earthquake at this time could be detrimental. Amidst the Covid-19 scare, the governor has also advised the states of Montana, Washington, Oregon, and Nevada to ask their residents to refrain from crossing mountains, hills, cliffs, dams, and dirt roads if possible due to the danger the possible earthquake presents. Brad Little has also advised Idaho residents in a 200 mile radius of the predicted epicenter to do the same.
Should the Gem State experience an earthquake in the weeks to come, especially one so large, our experience as Idahoans could shift and give some old residents flashbacks to the Borah Peak Earthquake in 1983. The earthquake was so large it killed two, and damaged multiple housing units all while attracting the attention of the 40th President of The United States, Ronald Reagan, who declared it a natural disaster (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983_Borah_Peak_earthquake).
So what's to expect as an Idahoan? Well, the best advice one can take in at the moment is to stay alert, stay smart, and stay safe!
